Beaches that work with young kids
Soline beach, 10 minutes south of Biograd centre by car, is the obvious first choice. The water stays knee-deep for almost 50 metres from shore - a rare combination of fine pebbles and sand on the Croatian coast. Sunbeds, a beach bar, and a shallow lifeguard zone in peak summer.
Janice beach in Pakostane (12 minutes south of Martha's Oliveyard) is the family-friendly alternative when Soline gets busy - smaller, equally shallow, less crowded.
For toddlers, the town beach in Biograd has a concrete sunbathing platform with steps into shallow water, no waves, and shade from a row of mature pines. Coffee and ice cream are 50 metres away.
Skip Drazica and Bosana / Crvena luka with kids under 6 - water is deep and cliffs are slippery.
Fun Park Biograd / Aquapark Dalmatia
The biggest family attraction in the area. Aquapark Dalmatia has water slides, a wave pool, a kids' splash zone, and a covered restaurant area. The attached Fun Park has a small amusement park - carousel, bumper cars, a small Ferris wheel, an arcade.
Plan a full day. Entry roughly 25-30 EUR for adults, 18-22 EUR for kids under 12, under 3 free. Parking on site, 5 minutes by car from Biograd centre.
What works:
- Arrive at opening (10 a.m.) for shorter slide queues
- Bring water bottles and snacks (allowed in)
- Sunscreen-up the kids before queueing - lines are in direct sun
What to skip if your kids are under 6: the bigger slides have height restrictions (130 cm or 140 cm depending on the slide).
Vransko jezero by bike with older kids
For kids 8+ who can ride a bike for an hour, Vransko jezero is the most underrated family outing in the area. Rent bikes from one of the shops in Pakostane (5 EUR/hour, 20 EUR/day) and ride to the nature park entrance - a 15-minute, mostly flat ride.
From there, the Kamenjak viewpoint trail is 3 km return on a wide gravel path - manageable for most kids. The view at the top (lake + Pasman channel + Kornati) is genuinely worth it.
For younger kids, drive to the lake (5 minutes from Pakostane), walk a short section of the lakeside path, and grill lunch at one of the konobas. Several have a small play area for kids.
Boat trips that work with kids
Full-day Kornati trips (9-6) are too long for kids under 7 - they get bored on the boat after 3 hours.
Better options for younger kids:
- Half-day Pasman boat tour - 4 hours, includes a swimming stop in a quiet cove. Around 35-45 EUR per adult, kids half price.
- Glass-bottom boat tour - 1-2 hour novelty trip from Biograd marina, kids love seeing the fish.
- Banana boat / inflatable rides - 10-15 minutes of pure noise and laughter. From the town beach. Ages 5+.
For kids 8 and up, a full Kornati day is fine if you bring books and download something for the ride.
Evenings: what actually works with kids
The Biograd promenade is the easiest. Park at the marina, walk the riva with ice cream, let the kids burn off energy in the small play area near Hotel Ilirija, and have dinner at one of the seafront pizzerias.
For something different:
- Mini golf at the marina (around 8 EUR per round) - works with any age above 4.
- Sunset stroll to Soline along the coastal path from Biograd centre - 25 minutes one way, free, and the light over the islands is beautiful.
- Konoba Barba in Sveti Filip i Jakov is genuinely family-friendly (we send our guests here all the time) - good food, fair prices, no fuss about kids.
For a calmer evening with toddlers, Pakostane or Sveti Filip i Jakov beat Biograd - less traffic, less noise, and you can be back at the villa within 15 minutes.
